The Katsina Consultative Forum (KCF) has announced its 2024 Annual General Meeting scheduled to take place on December 29 at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Government House, Katsina. This was disclosed by the forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Abubakar Danmusa, during a press briefing at Abba Saude House on Thursday, December 25.
The conference will focus on addressing poverty, enhancing security, and ensuring sustainable development in Katsina State. According to Alhaji Danmusa, the event will provide a critical platform for deliberating on pressing challenges affecting the state and devising long-term, practical solutions.
The forum aims to bring together experts, politicians, community leaders, and representatives from civil society organizations to formulate actionable strategies. Alhaji Danmusa stated that the outcome of the conference would include a comprehensive report containing practical recommendations to be shared with stakeholders for implementation.
Key Issues on the Agenda
A 2020 report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) ranked Katsina among the states with the highest poverty levels, with 74.1% of its population living below the poverty line. This alarming statistic underscores many of the security challenges and other societal issues in the state.
Another critical concern is the rising rate of drug abuse among youths, which threatens the future stability of Katsina. During the press briefing, Danmusa highlighted some of KCF’s initiatives in 2024 aimed at tackling these challenges. These include:
Organizing awareness campaigns about the dangers of drug abuse on media platforms such as Alfijir FM and Radio Nigeria Kaduna.
Educating community leaders to sensitize youths across all 34 local government areas in the state.
Convening stakeholder dialogues to develop strategies for combating drug abuse.
Providing clean water to NDLEA hostels in Katsina and planning to establish a rehabilitation center to reintegrate drug addicts into society.
Alhaji Danmusa emphasized the need for collaboration between the government, civil society organizations, and the general public to achieve the shared goal of eradicating poverty and resolving security challenges in Katsina.
The 2024 conference promises to be a landmark event, serving as a springboard for innovative solutions to Katsina’s challenges and improving the welfare of its residents.
